Your described fault Code means: P0503 = RPM sensor circuit
Look for the wirings and if there was faulty. Sometimes there was a bite on it, but the most of these Problems come from the RPM Sensor himself..
You can look in the is values for these Part and check if there a correct value.
At last you can mess the Sensorwirings with a wiring diagram to the engine Control unit.
Look, while you check the wirings, for a shortcut to battery plus or minus.
